Il Forrer (1902-30, V, p. 1) riporta: 1600-1670. British Coin-and Medal-engraver. Più oltre (V, p. 38) aggiunge: He was apprenticed as a Goldsmith and Gem-engraver and is said to have been a pupil of Nicholas Briot, with whom he worked for some years at the Royal Mint. An ardent Royalist, he served both Charles I. and Charles II, undergoing great hardships during the Commonwealth. His earliest dated medal, that of William Wade, is of 1641. On the outbreak of the Civil War, he followed Charles I. to Oxford.
