Secondo il Perini (1902, p. 43) il Cavalli avrebbe realizzato i conii delle monete di Massimiliano I d'Austria presso la zecca di Verona (1515-17), ma ciò appare poco realistico in quanto dopo il 1508 non si sa più nulla del Cavalli, ed è probabile che in quegli anni fosse già morto. Il Forrer (1902-30, I, p. 365) riporta: B. Beham Junior mentions that he executed in 1506 a medal of Maximilian I. on his second marriage with Maria Bianca Sforza, 1494, the portrait of the Emperor being taken from a painting by Ambrogio de Predis, 1502, and Half Thaler of the same monarch, with Tyrolian eagle on R/. Maximilian I. was a great admirer and patron of Art; it is said that he had a special liking for fine medals, and often gave orders for some to be engraved, which he himself afterwards criticised. At the Mint of Hall i. T., where several good artists were employed besides Gian Marco Cavallo, a series of Gulden, Groschen with multiples and subdivisions were struck, which also served as medals, in that they were often used for presentation purposes. A Pattern die of the Marriage Thaler of Maximilian and Mary of Burgundy, dated 1479, but really struck at Hall in 1506, exists in the Vienna Mint Museum and appears to have been cut by Cavalli, after an original by Candida. Più avanti (VII, pp. 167-168) riporta: Mr. G.F. Hill thinks that Cavalli may possibly be the engraver of some small coins of Gian Francesco II. of Mantua, with the Madonna on R/. Among the coins, for which he cut the dies at Hall are Half Thalers (Testoni) with busts of Maximilian and Bianca. A sketch for the latter and casts of a large medallion in wax are still extant. In his style is a small struck medal of Maximilian with the emperor on horseback, and Mars, Faith and Justice on the reverse. Doubtful is the attribution to him of the restored Marriage thalers of Maximilian and Mary of Burgundy (erroneoustly dated 1479) and the medal ot Francesco Bonatti.
